Grisaia no Kajitsu is a Japanese adult visual novel developed by Front Wing and was released on February 25, 2011. The abbreviation of the game title is “Gurikaji”
Outline
The game was released in celebration of the establishment of Front Wing company’s 10th anniversary. The word “grisaia” from the title is an art term of “Grisaille” (French) being changed, literally, it means “Grayness”. In the beginning, this project had some other titles like “Gray scale” or “World end”. When translated into French, the game title is known as “Le Fruit de la Grisaia”.
The people in charge of character design and CG drawing are Akio Watanabe, a well-known animator who is famous for his work in “Bakemonogatari”, and Fumio, an illustrator who in charge of another game of Front Wing, “Hoshiuta”. Though the number of character design which Fumio in charge of is more, Akio Watanabe is in charge of supervision of the opening animation.
As a reservation privilege, visual fan book “Treasure of Grisaia” was attached to all editions of the game. Beside, there is a limited edition called "Grisaia no Kajitsu SOFMAP LIMITED EDITION" for people who reserve the game from Sofmap. It contains a bed sheet, a towel and a drama CD.
There is another visual fan book beside “Treasure of Grisaia” and it is scheduled to be published by Enterbrain. An anime project of the game is also planned.
Story
That academy - used to be the orchard of young girls.
A lonely boy, who lost his purpose to live, came to that isolated-from-the-foreign-enemies academy.
Lose sight of things that should be protected, he spends his life in living day by day with regret and atonement. His life is cheaper than a stray dog when that heavy cangue still around his neck.
And then at that academy, the boy finds out his new hope in encountering with these girls.
── That girl, who being born was already a mistake.
Who defied the sin──
──Who died thought she’s living.
Who doesn’t have anyone to protect──
──and who being punished for surviving.
That place is the girls’ orchard.
The trees of regret bear the fruit of repentance of those girls. What on earth can I do for these girls…?
That is the eternal hope which the lonely boy dreamt…
Protagonist. After his parents passed away when he was still a child, Yuuji was raised by an older woman, and started his new life in underground world. He calls that woman "Master". After his master's death, he succeeded her job as a “sweeper” for the “Company”, and was feared in the underworld with name of ace number “9029”. One day, he wished that “I want to attend a normal school life”, so he contacted Chizuru, the principal of Mihama academy, who is one of his acquaintances. He transferred to Mihama academy under the pretext of a “returning- to-his-country student from Canada”. To 5 other girls, he didn’t inform them much about his own identity. Because of a trauma in the past, he hates to take the train, and tries to use other transportation as much as possible. At the time when he came to Mihama academy, though he had received a ticket from JB, he walked 175km from Yamanashi prefecture instead.
He is the type that always keeps calm and only approaches other if it’s necessary. He follows the teaching of the woman who was his foster parents, so he always reads a book and runs 16km in early morning. Therefore, his physical strength and wisdom is at high-level, but he lacks the feelings of observation the others’ action and speech, so he is inferior in daily communications. He hardly talks about his family, but sometimes he recalls his mother and his sister, Kazuki, as “Gentle people”. On the other hand, he hates his father so much that he calls him “The worst man”.

2nd grader of Mihama academy, the daughter of "East Beach Railway Express Group" tycoon. After Mihama academy had been established, she was the first student to enroll. Her characteristic is a waist-length black hair. Because of her bluntness and hard-to-please personality, her association with strangers is bad. Always trying to be alone, she hardly meets with the others. She always carries a box cutter with her and use it to threaten others when she’s getting angry. She reads so many books that she’s called a “Bookworm”, especially, mystery novel is her favourite. Although she’s such a lady, she changes completely in meal time, junk foods like a cup of fried soba noodles is her favourite dish.
Her representative fruit is grape.

3rd grade of Mihama academy, the Onee-san type who always takes care of others. For some circumstances, she skipped one school year at her previous school, so she is actually 2 years older than Yuuji. She is tall and has good body style. Her family manages a long-established restaurant in Ginza, so she is good at cooking. Because her mother comes from Kyoto, when getting excited or panic, she sometimes talks in Kansai dialect. She has a deep interest in car and has acquired automatic two-wheeled vehicle license. She has a dirt bike which was remodeled to a cruiser called “Boba Tarou” (ボバ太郎) and is put in the garage of the academy.
Her representative fruit is cherry.

Despite having difficulty with sour foods, she still try to drink 100% pure Vitamin C in order to “improve her intelligence”, as she said. She has encountered many bad lucks since her birth but always manages to get through them in one way or another.

For that uniqueness, most of people who talk with her for 5 minutes will say “This girl is awful”. She adores Yuuji as a brother and Amane as a sister. She calls Yuuji “Onii-chan”. Although she has her own room in the dormitory, she always stays in Amane’s room. She always wears knee-socks with 2 different colors. Because of her parents work, she stayed in foreign countries until she was 6 so she can talk English. Her family is rumored to be a large financial clique which controls the underworld of Japan, but rarely people know the unhappiness which she suffered for born in such a troublesome family. She used to be the successor of Irisu family but her inheritance right was transferred to her younger sister, Irisu Sarina, after she suffered a mental shock in an accident. Despite all of that, she still has 70 millions yen as her own property.

She said that everyone told her to wear maid uniform as much as possible. Polite and has strong sense of responsibility, she never fail to accomplish any request from others. In her action dictionary, there are only 3 words “receive” – “confirm” – “execute”. Because of that reason, sometimes she takes a joke too serious and causes a lot of trouble. Her favorite animal is shark. The shark-shaped pouch which Michiru carries around is made by her.

The only daughter of prefectural governor and the principal of Mihama academy. To her, Yuuji is a benefactor of life, as he rescued her in an event in the past. Because of that reason, when Yuuji told her that he wanted to have a normal school life, she offered him the chance to enroll to Mihama academy. Sometimes, she is mistaken for a junior school girl due to her young figure. Her age is about 30 and she still a virgin. She has a habit of speaking quickly when telling a lie.

Yuuji's elder sister. Despite her delicate and diminutive body, she has a brilliant intelligence and excels in judgment that she can be called a genius. She is the same age as Amane, both of them went to the same school, “Takizono private academy”, and were in the basketball team of the school. She died in an accident which greatly influences to Yuuji’s and Amane’s future life.

The older woman whom Yuuji calls "Master". She took charge of raising Yuuji when his parents passed away. She had died one and a half years before Yuuji enrolled to Mihama academy. After her death, her friend, JB, became Yuuji’s guardian. Yuuji once said “She had a rough personality”. She is now buried among the mountains in Yamanashi Prefecture where she and Yuuji used to live.
Chiara Farrell - キアラ・ファレル - CV: 桜城ちか
A staff of the information division of the "Company", JB’s assistant and junior. She is a mixed-blood with 2/3 of Japanese and 1/3 of African. Therefore, she has a brown skin and silvery hair as her characteristic. Because of the nature of her work, she worries about her weight increasing due to her intemperance eatting habits.

Yumiko's father, the leader of the "East Beach Electric Railway Group" financial clique and the chief director of Mihama academy.

Sakaki Michiaki’s wife and Yumiko’s mother. Her former family name is “Komoto”. The Komoto family is an old lineage family which manages real estate in Old Town at Kanagawa prefecture so her marriage with Michiaki was a political marriage of convenience. Her body isn’t much healthy.

An old woman who has served at Komoto family for a long time. She always take care of Yumiko and is trusted by her.

3rd grader of Takizono private academy who served as the director of the basketball club. She comes from a wealthy family. Due to her coercive personality, she wasn't trusted much by other members. When the accident involving the whole basketball club occurred (see “term” for more information), her leading roles was replaced by Kazuki.
Koide Ritsu - 小出 葎 （こいで りつ） - CV: 野々村紗夜
A member of the basketball team, Amane and Kazuki’s senpai. She always say that she doesn’t cilmb up the head of director Sakashita. Though her parents are doctor, she doesn’t know anything about medical treatment.
Sakuma Minori - 佐久間 みのり （さくま みのり） - CV: 葉市憂
3rd grader and a member of the basket ball team. She has a boyish personality with short hair. Though she was the ace member of the team, she didn’t like leading others so she didn’t become the director. She has a calm personality, pretty close with Amane.

1st grader and a member of the basket ball team. She is a roommate of Sakuma in the dormitory of Takizono academy. Her father is a manager of a company which imports and sells high-level foreign car.

2nd grader and a member of basketball club. When the bus fell, her head got lacerated.
Komori Megumi - 古森 めぐみ （こもり めぐみ） - CV: 綾瀬あかり
1st grader and a member of the basketball team. She has a Shih Tzu type dog named “Allion” and brought it together with her to the training camp. In difficult times, she works as a pair with Kaneda. Her family manages a Japanese-style confection store.

3rd grader and a member of the basket ball team. Though her father is an actor and her mother used to be an idol, she doesn’t worry to much about not having any talent like her parents. She has a polite and elegant personality and also famous for her beauty. When the bus fell, her abdomen got lacerated.
Hirooka Tamaki - 広岡 たまき （ひろおか たまき） - CV: 奈都水環
1st grader and a member of the basket ball team. She has a shy and obedient personality. When the bus fell, both of her feet were seriously fractured which made her impossible to move straightly.
鹿内 元 - CV: None
A member of basketball team. When the bus fell, she hit her head hard and died 10 minutes after that. How to pronounce the name ”鹿内元” is uncertain.
Ozawa Youko - 小沢 洋子 （おざわ ようこ） - CV: None
A member of the basketball team. She died immediately when the bus fell. Her appietite is large and her body is obesity.

The father of the director of the basketball club, Sakashita Chiaki. 6 years ago, at the time when the bus-fall accident occurred, he was a representative director of a IT related company but now he becomes unemployed after the company was rearranged. He has some hunting experiences and can use sporting gun well.
Nyanmel - ニャンメル - CV: 綾瀬あかり
A cat which Michiru has founded in the ground site of Mihama academy. Michiru calls it “Neko-nya” and Yuuji calls it “Rommel”, so they combine them and the name “Nyanmel” comes out. Once you’ve reached Michiru route’s ending, it is possible to choose Nyanmel’s system voice in the game’s setting screen.
Girl - 少女 (The name is uncertain) - CV: 今野蒼衣
A girl at the school where Michiru went to before. Her face is freckled. She was a best friend of Michiru but she committed suicide after getting pregnant with a older man whom she got acquainted through the internet. She wears the same accessory with the one Michiru has on her left arm.
Irisu Kiyoka - 入巣 清夏 （いりす きよか） - CV: 唯香
Makina's mother, representative director of "Iris global", the core enterprise of Iris group. Her relation with Makina is bad. She doesn’t care much about Makina.
Irisu Masataka - 入巣 正孝 （いりす まさたか） - CV: ???
Makina's father, the son-in-law and also the adopted son of Irisu house. He had a mild personality and strong sense of justice. 8 years ago, he died in an accident, or rather, was assassinated. He used to be an accountant of Ministry of Defense Management Division.

Sachi’s uncle and her guardian. He took charge of raising Sachi after her father died and her mother hospitalized in a traffic accident. He and his wife love Sachi as their own child.

A delinquent girl at the school where Sachi transferred to after the accident involving her parents occurred. She took advantage of Sachi’s absolute obedience, treated her like a slave and made her do many things. One day, she ordered Sachi to “make the test disappear” which led to a large disaster when Sachi burnt down the whole classrooms in order to “make the test disappear”.
Term
Mishima cape - 三嶋崎 （みしまざき）
The fictional town where the story takes place. It locates on a peninsula in the outskirts of Shonan region (information is taken from Yumiko route’s scenario "Dashing day" 『疾走の日』). In the reality, it seems that it is the Miura peninsula in Kanagawa prefecture. Furthermore, the distance from Yamanashi prefecture to this town is about 150km. The town has a train station and a shopping street , where Amane usually goes shopping.
Mihama private academy - 私立美浜学園（しりつみはまがくえん）
The academy which Yuuji and five heroines enroll. The leader of "East Beach Electric Railway Group" financial clique, Sakaki Michiaki, established it for his daughter, Yumiko, one year ago. It locates on the innings of Mishima cape. Despite its first class equipments and buildings, the number of student is unnatural low, only 5 schoolgirls and 1 schoolboy who is Yuuji who has just transferred to. As the school site is covered with high walls, Yumiko refers it as “A bird cage”.
In education, the school teaches common subjects in the morning and in the afternoon students can choose the subjects they like. Tachibana Chizuru, the academy’s director, is also a teacher herself. She teachs various subjects like national language, mathematics, biology. The academy also invites speciality teachers from outside of the school. There aren’t any regular gym teacher or nurse teacher in the school. There is only 1 plural class which teaches all 6 students from 1st school year to 3rd school year. Students can repeat a year for 8 years, any more than that they will be force to leave.
East Beach Railway Express Group - 東浜急行電鉄グループ （とうひんきゅうこうでんてつグループ）
The company which is the sponsor of Sakaki Academy Educational Corporation. This is a giant company which manages the private railway net in the Kanto region and contributes a lot to the economic development of Mishima cape. The present manager is Sakaki Michiaki, Yumiko's father. It has a strong relation with Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, therefore its influence to government and financial circles is abundant. Because of its forceful methods to take over other enterprises, the company is ridiculed as “Thievery Group” (“盗品”グループ).
"The Company" - 「会社」
The underground world organization which Yuuji works for, its “Headquarter” is in USA. In Japan, it belongs to “Ichigaya” and is under interference of “Asakasa”. Though the standard nomenclature of the organization is uncertain, its abbreviation is “CIRS" （サーズ). The official name of the organization is “Asahi Clean Ltd.”. Naturally, PR director is also the title of JB, who is the intellingence department chief.
Code 9029 - 9029号 （ナインオーツーナイン）
Yuuji's code name. It is the number being succeeded from generation to generation by the ace of "Company". 12 years ago, the predecessor who kept this number exterminated all the drug cartels in Cuba. Since that time, the number 9029 has been feared in the underworld world as “the number of terror”.
Takizono private academy - 私立滝園学園 （しりつたきぞのがくえん）
A private academy where Suou Amane and Kazami Kazuki enrolled 6 years ago. There are many ladies from wealthy families enroll in this academy, and it also has classes which teach service attitude. Amane was registered in class D first grade and Kazuki in class A first grade.
Takizono academy minibus fall accident - 滝園学園マイクロバス転落事故
Six years ago, in August 14th 2005, the minibus that carried the basket ball team of Takizono private academy fell off cliff into a forest on its way back after the summer training camp. There were 14 people missing in this accident, 13 students and 1 adviser. The victims couldn’t use their mobile phones due to the magnetic disturbance caused by the forest and most of them were unable to move their bodies. Because the bus didn’t run in its original road but took an unfrequented road instead, it caused many difficulties in searching for the victims. After two weeks, when the rescue team was about to give up, one victim, Suou Amane, was able to get down of the mountain by herself in the state of near-death. Following her directions, rescue team managed to get to the crash site and found several dissected corpses. After that, this accident became a topic for every media. Yuuji’s sister, Kazuki, died in this accident.
Fresh Fish Superman Tuna Man - 鮮魚超人マグロマン
A hero from a television program which is broadcasted on Sunday morning. It tells a story about the "Tuna man", a hero with body of a tuna with human hands and feet grow on his body, fighting with "Kalbi general" to protect the world. Makina is a big fan of this program. He first appeared in the common route scenario “Fight! Tuna man” (戦え！マグロマン) and often becomes a topic in the game afterwards. Moreover, two main heroines of “Hoshiuta”, Suou Nanano and Yamabuki Renge, appear as cameo appearances. The main theme of this program 「Tuna・Beautiful」 （Song・Lyric・Composition：￥Cu スタ平、Arrangement：MML）can be listened in the BGM appreciation mode as an insert song.
