Good question and 適当に is every Japanese-learner's weakpoint. Read this carefully or you will be eternally lost. Trust me, I have met Japanese learners who think they are fluent use this word incorrrectly everytime they use it.

適当に means "non-seriously", "randomly", etc. 99% of the times. When it does not mean those things, the word is simply being used incorrectly by the careless speaker/writer. This is the opposite of what many learners think because if you look up 適当 in a dictionary, you will get "proper", "appropriate", etc.

Add only に and it wil have the almost opposite meaning. This is why some people write it as テキトーに like it were being used for a new slang meaning.

So, 適当に/テキトーに never means きちんと. To mean きちんと, one needs to use 適切（てきせつ）に.

How about 適当な? This one is even trickier because it means both "appropriate" and "random".
For the latter meaning, more careful writers use テキトーな for clarification.

You have got it. It is asking if that has not hapened to you by chance.

I am impressed because the word 適当 could have easily fooled a Japanese-learner into thinking it was being used for its original meaning.

Just a little nitpicking, not that I disagree with you but "Not thinking deeply" is a little too broad for "Tekitou". Or perhaps a little too specific, depending on the situation.

"Tekitou" kinda carries with it this sense that you don't actually care about how you do it or the results afterwards, just whether (your action) is done or not.

"Not think deeply" does sum up a good bit of what "Tekitou" means but it's not quite how you use it.

Like for example, when you're answering a trick question, "Tekitou" and "Not thinking deeply" hold very different meaning.

If you use "Tekitou" then it would mean that you don't really care if your answer is right or not, you just give one. It could be anything for that matter.

Where as with "Not thinking deeply", it means that the answer may be simple/right in front of your eyes and you're just over-thinking things.

So yeah, like I said, it's not that I disagree with you, it's just that "Tekitou" doesn't mean "Not thinking deeply". It sums up a fair bit of the word, what kind of emotions/tone/stance/etc etc that it carries with, but not exactly what it means.
