Otome Games: Modern Japan or Antique Japan?

Hello. I'm really new in this forum. I like otome games. In some games the heroine is in a fantastic world, or England. But in the most of them she and the boys are in Japan. Do you think is better the games in the actual Japan or the games in antique Japan? Like... Samurais, Shinsengumi, and that...
I really like both.
And... I don't really know many games in Modern Japan. That's curious. But I have played a lot of games in Antique Japan. :92:
Can someone recommend me titles of games in Modern Japan? (If they are +18 better XD)

Both! As long as the story is good, I like historical and present days, fantasy or slice of life. It's just that the language in the games set in the past is more difficult to understand.

If you like a little fantasy in the mix, try Enkan no Memoria. It's set in the near future (feels like present days anyway) but there are gods - real and artificial along with the elctronic devices. The story is interesting and the guys and the heroine are lovable.

Oh, really? Thanks fluffyswife! I will try Enkan no Memoria if you recommend me. I haved it, but I don't have the right chance for play it. Thanks for your answer. And... Is true. languages in the games set in the past are more difficult to understand, maybe for antiques kanji. So many are so complicated that they have dictionaries in the game for them. Jaja. It's difficult even for japaneses, so, we don't need to feel to bad, ah?:148:

I like both modern and hístoric games. But I find that modern games work better when they have more comedy and hítorical games work better with more sẻrious plotlines. Hakuouki is a great game for a serious plot, but Ken ga Kimi outstrips it in my opinion.

I like both as well! I don't have strong preference for the setting as long as the story/characters are good, though I have to agree that those games set in ancient Japan tend to be a lot more challenging language-wise.

Thanks auverie for your comment. Some games in Ancient Japan like Hakuouki are very good and more history oriented but fluffyswife recommend me Enkan no Memoria. I played it already and was very good, I'm very thankfull to her. I don't remmember If I write her: "Thanks flufflywife for your advice, I will try to play Enkan no Memoria soon." If I don't, well... Here it is.
There are many others, like Nightshade, Asaki Yumemishi, and an incountable list about antique japan.
A game that I love a lot already (even if not is an otome game, is Samurai Warriors, specially the version from Wii, I think is the third part if I don't remember bad.) In Japan they are very pride of his edo and antique general story and knows very well that ninjas, samurais, japanese castles and strategic wars are elements very interesting, not only for they, but foreigners as well. If you can put fantasy and explode it in videogames, anime and comics, BOom! Big Deal!

I think that I played a 45% games in antique japan. A 35% in a fantastic world or England... And 20% in a real, boring, normal and beautiful actual world.
Fantasy is good, in that games you can make happy your imagination with situations in others ways impossible but situations in otome games more "equal" to reality is good too, I think.
I'm talking &%$#, excuse me. I will play any otome, while it have great plot, and well drawed characters with defined personalitys. Don't understimate otomes only for his characters, plot or ambient age... One really otome lover "needs play it all!" As a Otomon Trainer!:65:

I never gave a thought about this, but now, looking at my gamelist... There are realy few games set in the real, normal present. Most have at least some fantasy/supernatural elements. O.O

Antique Japan is my thing, even though I've played a few games based on modern settings.
I love Japanese history and I think it's nice playing games with old Japanese and youkais.
Antique Japan + Supernatural elements = Awesomeness.
