Hayao Miyazaki’s Final Movie Will Feature Hand-Drawn Art
In a letter to Eiga Natalie, revealed that Kimi-tachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (How Do You Live?) will be an action-adventure fantasy film. It’s a genre Miyazaki is well-versed in, with Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Laputa: Castle in the Sky being key examples.
Suzuki also said that the film will be hand-drawn, as opposed to Miyazaki’s Kemushi no Boro CGI short film. All of Miyazaki’s feature films have been hand-drawn, with Princess Mononoke having CGI elements in a few scenes.
Suzuki concluded that he fully understands why Miyazaki came out of retirement after reading the Kimi-tachi wa Dou Ikiru ka novel. The story centers around Koperu and his uncle. Through spiritual growth, Koperu learns what it means to live as a human.
