Sometimes I can overlook many flaws in my favourite games to fully love it, e.g. In Your Arms Tonight. Many times my deal-breakers are too prominent and I totally can't enjoy the game at all, e.g. Kissed by The Baddest Bidder, Ozmafia, Loved By King Bs, etc.

Yet, there are still games which I can't let go despite my deal-breakers. I love them. I hate them. But I keep coming back to them (。・//ε//・。)

I don't know if others also find themselves stuck in such a weird relationship with any Otome games, but this is often the case for me :3.

Specifically, I have a relentless love-hate relationship with Mystic Messenger. I was a highly obsessed fan for 5 months, but nearly turned into an antifan lmao, when Another Story new routes were released. I won't elaborate on my reasons to avoid wars, because MM fans are often way too sensitive in debates on this game lol. For absolutely curious souls, my petpeeves in MM are plot holes, a certain character, and another's development.

Besides MM, I can definitely name Nightshade, Hakuoki and BWS as well for a minor reason - long common route. Normally I drop such games pretty fast unless they have Skip to Choice function lol, but the three mentioned games are so worth all my efforts.

I can't wait to know more games which can cause such conflicting emotions for others.
Please share ♡\( ̄▽ ̄)/♡, I won't bite ;)!

1. Hakuouki.
+++ Characters.
+ Art.
+ Story (more or less).
--- Inability to change anything (apart from saving some characters in good ends and killing them off in bad ends).
- You are required to get all relationship points with guys to receive good ends, but at the same time in order to get all points you must somehow predict what choice will lead to an encounter with your romantic interest in the future.
- The excess of historic details forced on the reader.

2. Akazukin to Mayoi no Mori.
+++ Art.
++ Characters (apart from the time they rape you -_-).
++ Music.
+ Story.
+++ Nightmare's route.
---------- The "I love this guy, so I will volunteer to be his sex toy and I forgive him everything" attitude of the main heroine.

3. Black Wolves Saga.
+++++ Dark fantasy setting.
+ Art.
+++ Characters (especially the crazy ones).
+ Music.
--- The main heroine's naivety and inability to change anything most of the time.
--- Plain and predictable system of choices.

That was indeed troublesome. I used up all my save slots (and overwrote them countless times) while playing the common route LOL. It's really admirable that you can predict where a certain love interest would be, but I could only use trials and errors XD

I'm sure, it was the same for everyone. :)
When I was playing that game, I just wanted to make choices I would make in the real life if I found myself in that situation, and see where it would lead me in the end. Thus, I naturally gained a couple of points for Okita and several points for Saito which directed me on his route. However, in the end of the common route I already figured out how those choices work and decided to start over since I saw the bad end coming. As I already knew to some extent which choice relates to whom, I replayed the common route with all Saito's choices without much difficulty.
Now that I look back on this game's system of choices during the common route, I think there are many problems with it. Almost all your choices don't relate directly to your romantic interest, but you still must make choices specific only for that guy. Some choices are especially questionable, for example the one when you must choose to not search your father actively if you want to get points with some guys. And yes, if replaying every time when you reveal that your choice is related to a wrong guy isn't for you, you will see gruesome bad ends almost guaranteed since the consequences of the choices are often unpredictable.

I'm adding "Brother's conflict" to the list. I really like the characters and the story (although it's a bit too sweet and kind to my liking), but the gameplay part is killing me. It slows down replays and, what's worse, it isn't connected to character's routes. For example, a character can declare that we almost don't see each other despite the fact that I spend every day with him in the gameplay part. Or he asks if I had any problem with finding a way to his apartment although I visited his apartment several times already. Also, what is it with 14 men who, all together, quickly fall in love with the main heroine for no special reason?

Mystic Destinies. I played recently and I like the story and all, but I don't like the CG's style. Are beautiful, suposse... But I don't really like it. And I suffer because the others protagonist (So sexys) will be in the Aeon game... More money, more time to download it, and... more time waiting. But nah... It's a good game.

Amnesia - story, art and voice acting are pure win, but i hated more than half of the characters. The saving grace were Kent, Shin, Waka and Sawa. Everyone else can go die somewhere.

Harukanaru Toki no Naka de~Hachiyousho~ - it's one of the most beautiful games I played. The story is engaging, the music is great, the seiyuu cast is full with favourites and the art is unbelievable. Yet I don't think I will play it to full completion. Just because it's soooooo long it become tedious from the forth run onward. And the second best ending (the fast developement one) is almost imposible to obtain. It's the hardest otome game I played so far.

Though I didn't consider Amnesia to be amongst my favourite titles, I kinda felt similarly strong emotions about it. In my case, only Ukyo deserves to RIP. The rest can just rot in their worlds or be ripped apart by his own fans lol ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌

AI Escort. While it has great characters, creative plot and gameplay, it also feels underdeveloped. Out of the three 'romantic interests', one almost gets no attention, another one, although has some spotlight, is lacking decent routes, and the third character has all the game focused on him while the main heroine rapidly falls in love with him for no special reason. Also, while the original Japanese language is cut out of this version, the English translation is a total failure almost on the level of automatic translation. I feel pity for this game, I think it has a great potential, but it's unlikely that it will ever have a remake.
