Otome Games: Modern Japan or Antique Japan?

hi!! it's nice to bring up this kind of topic in the forum :79: me myself don't really care about the type, modern or antique, both for me can bring a different thus good sensation and remembrance as long as the graphic is well drawn and the story plot interest me (memorable enough) :152:

I've read the others' posts, and about Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi, have you played it yet? I've played it once, but since my Japanese is not really good (which means I'm still a very amateur in Japanese) I used an online translator, and sometimes the offline translator.. Long time no play, I forgot how to use the translator :143:

About the translator, I know that feeling... I can recommend you Visual Novel Reader for your visual novels. The translations is not always the best, but works. And they have in their database some games with complete translation, very loyal to the real plot and japanese.

But for me, otoge with history-oriented stories are like a different world, giving me a new experience.

Thanks Moniker, for your answer and sharing your opinnion. I was talking (10 years before XD) than the modern/present times otome are few compared with the futuristic, historic or fictional otomes (with fantasy or magic in them). The classic otomes (a little more antique) are of that type. I can recommend you Tokimeki Memorial's Girls Side (of Konami, all of them; are three), Pastry Lovers, all the otomes of TiramisuVilla and Dousei Kareshi Series. All of them are very good.

I love antique Japan setting though it's a bit hard to understand, for example Ken Ga Kimi. Modern Japan games are much easier, but I prefer antique fantasy japan games

Hi, Miraiki! Thanks for sharing your opinnion about the topic. Well, I'm a big fan of Hakuouki's games, so I understand you! But don't understimate the modern Japan games. They can be very... interesting too. Maybe they can surprise you. (But for example, and I think that I wrote that before... you have reason to say that the antique Japan settings are harder, because explain the violence and death of the protagonist is more easier than the actual world.) Don't you think? That's why is more rare to see a lot of bad endings in modern japan games and not the same in the antique japan. But bad endings sometimes are very interesting... or very sad. And are part of the story too. I always want to won all the endings about a character that I like.
And this is my last example... If you don't won the bad ending with Ikki (Amnesia) maybe you don't know that he can have... a very dark side too.

I always love fantasy setting, and I especially love Sengoku era, so I prefer ancient Japan-themed otome games.
Of course it would be better if it's Sengoku Era, but I sometimes try Bakumatsu (Shinsengumi) era games

I love both modern and antique, i think a good game depends on the quality of his developer team, for example Giga and Teambaldrhead are awesome. The Baldr series is what you could call Modern, or better said, futuristic, but Duel Savior Justice (Awesome Game) is in Fantasy world that is either Antique neither Modern.
