How do you prefer your otome: VN style or with gameplay?

If the gameplay is to make up for the lack of plot in a game I don't mind it. FOr example, in Storm Lover it was good but it did get tedious doing the same thing over and over

I think for me, it depends on the extent of the gameplay. Because for otome games I'm usually playing it for the story, but I don't mind if it has some interactive parts like in CollarxMalice where you need to shoot or investigate. Otherwise if theres too much gameplay, I would be playing more of a JRPG?

I like the VN style with in-game calls and messages like Mystic Messenger!

Well, I'm pure VN style fan... I have played Sim/RPG/Stat raising, but they aren't my cup of tea as don't have enough plot nor character grown, and also I love reading.

I don't think I've played a dating sim yet, but from your description, it sounds similar to Dandelion - Wishes brought to you, as you must raise stats there and the gameplay differs from a usual Visual Novel. In this case, I can tell that I like Visual Novels way more. If I wanted to engage in raising stats, I'd rather play RPG, because the way it was in Dandelion - extremely simplified - it just consumed a lot of time and was enjoyable only for the first hour or two. Having to go through this again during replays was just tiring and aggravating. Also, there wasn't much story because of it.

In Dandelion the stats were too easy to acomplish, wich made them pointless. There are other sims/stat raisers/rpg's with a little more chalenging gameplay where the results from it counts. Can even give you bad end or 'forever alone' one. But I have to agree, the story is not as deep as in a good visual novel. Still there are pretty decent plots if not great ones and the gradual change in the reactions of the chosen bishi is a sweet reward for a work well done.

Getting along from the begining! I'm envious. My first try with TokiMemo was a disaster. :) Later on, with a little help from a guide I tryed again. And fell completely in love with that type of games.

fluffyswife, could you tell me which games have both challenging gameplay and good plot so I could try them? I think I could enjoy something like this.
